The College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Xi'an University of Science and Technology has a profound history, which can be traced back to the Chemistry Teaching and Research Section of the Basic Department of Xi'an Mining Institute established in 1958 and the Mineral Research Institute of Xi'an Mining Institute established in 1988.In 1994, the Department of New Materials Engineering was established, in 1998, the Department of Materials Engineering was established, and in 2003, the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was established, which was renamed as the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2008.
The College has the departments of chemistry, chemical engineering, applied chemistry and mineral processing engineering, Shaanxi Chemical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Mineral Processing Engineering Experimental Teaching Center, Chemical Engineering and Technology Experimental Teaching Center and Undergraduate Program Experimental Teaching Center, as well as Coal Chemical Research Institute, Mineral Institute, Polymer Institute, New Carbon Materials Institute, etc.At the same time, the College has jointly built the National Laboratory for Clean Transformation of Energy and Coal Components, Key Laboratory of Coal Resources Exploration and Comprehensive Utilization of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and the collaborative centers for the development of energy and chemical industry and the safe, green and efficient development of coal in northern Shaanxi.More than 40 practice teaching bases have been established in large and medium-sized enterprises such as Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group, Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) and China Energy Group Ningxia Coal Industry Co., Ltd.
The College currently has 106 faculty members, including 80 full-time teachers, 12 professors, 27 associate professors, 12 Ph.D. supervisors and 35 postgraduate supervisors, those with doctoral degree or above accounting for 91.25%.It has 15 engineers and technicians including 5 senior engineers, a 7-member team for ideological and political education of students and 4 other administrative staffers.The College has 1 member of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 1 expert from Engineering Education Accreditation Expert Group of the Ministry of Education, 1 "Renowned Teacher" of Shaanxi Province, 2 "Outstanding Teachers" of Shaanxi Province, 4 scholars from the "Hundred Talents Program" of Shaanxi Province, 2 Young Scientific Stars of Shaanxi Province, 2 scholars from the "Young Outstanding Talents Support Program" for Higher Education in Shaanxi and 5 "Renowned Teachers" at school level.The College currently has more than 1,300 students at school, including more than 200 doctoral and master students and more than 1,100 undergraduates.
The College has 4 undergraduate programs: chemical engineering and technology, mineral processing engineering, energy chemical engineering and applied chemistry.The chemical engineering and technology major is a national specialty with characteristics and advantages, a national first-class undergraduate program construction site, a pilot specialty of comprehensive reform of Shaanxi Province, a demonstration area of talent cultivation innovation of Shaanxi Province, and an implementing specialty of outstanding engineers education and cultivation plan, and it passed the engineering education accreditation in 2014 and 2017, respectively.The mineral processing engineering major is a first-class undergraduate program construction site of Shaanxi Province, and passed the engineering education accreditation in 2020.The applied chemistry major is a demonstration specialty of comprehensive reform of Xi'an University of Science and Technology, which has been evaluated by the Western Evaluation Center.The College has established several provincial teaching teams such as "Engineering Chemistry", "Coal Chemical Industry Series Courses" and "Physical Chemistry", Excellent Courses of Shaanxi Province such as "Organic Chemistry" and "C1 Chemical Industry", Excellent Resource Sharing Courses of Shaanxi Province such as "Physical Chemistry", "Organic Synthetic Chemistry" and "Mineralogy", and provincial first-class courses such as "Chemical Engineering Principles" and "Chemical Engineering Simulation".It has organized to compile a series of characteristic textbooks for coal chemical industry and mineral processing, undertaken a number of provincial teaching reform projects, and achieved remarkable teaching reform results.
The College has a doctor program in second-level discipline of "Mineral Processing Engineering", master programs in the first-level discipline of "Chemical Engineering and Technology" (including 4 second-level disciplines: chemical engineering, chemical technology, material chemical engineering and applied chemistry), the first-level discipline of "Chemistry" (including 3 second-level disciplines: organic chemistry, physical chemistry, polymer chemistry and physics), and the second-level discipline of "Mineral Processing Engineering", and professional master programs in "Materials and Chemical Industry" and "Resources and Environment", and has formed a discipline system featuring energy, chemical industry and mineral processing and utilization, with integrated science and technology, and the mutual support and integration of multiple disciplines.The discipline focuses on the key scientific problems and technical bottlenecks in the green, efficient and low-carbon transformation of "oil-rich coal" in western China, and has made a series of significant academic achievements in coal multi-scale structure and green chemical industry, coal-based new carbon materials, coal pyrolysis polygeneration, coal biotransformation, coal-based fine chemicals and so on.The discipline has outstanding characteristics and advantages in fine processing of coal and minerals, polygeneration of coal chemical industry, polymer chemical industry and new chemical materials.
In recent years, the College has undertaken more than 100 longitudinal and cooperative research projects with enterprises including the National Basic Research and Development Plan, the National Key Science and Technology Research Projects and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.In recent years, the College has won 5 science and technology awards at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, obtained more than 80 national invention patents and published more than 300 high-level papers.The transfer of technological achievements has achieved good economic and social benefits, and made outstanding contributions to the development of regional and industrial economy.
The College attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality and practical innovation ability, and teaching achievements play an important role in the cultivation of students.Students have made great achievements in many national and regional competitions, such as English competition, Mathematics competition, "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, China College Students' 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Chemical Experiment Competition, Chemical Design Competition, and College Mineral Processing Engineering Students' Practical Works Competition.The postgraduate entrance examination rate is over 30%, and the employment rate has been above 90% for 3 consecutive years.
