The College of Computer Science and Technology originated from the major of computer and application established by the former Department of Electrical Engineering in 1987. In December 1994, based on this major, it merged with the Computational Mathematics Teaching and Research Section of the Basic Department and the Computing Center of the university to form the Computer Department. With the rapid development of higher education and the growing demand for personnel training, the College has kept forging ahead for more than ten years, and the computer and information discipline specialty has been continuously developed and expanded. Therefore, the College of Computer Science and Technology was established in 2008.
The College has 2 national first-class major construction pilots, including four teaching departments of computer science, information science, software engineering, and network engineering, and 1 teaching department of computer basic courses. The College has 1 doctoral program in the second-level discipline of security information systems, 2 master's programs in first-level disciplines of computer science and technology and software engineering. It also has 5 undergraduate majors in computer science and technology, software engineering, network engineering, data science and big data technology and information and computing science. There are currently more than 1,800 registered postgraduates and undergraduates.
The College enjoys a robust faculty. There is also a group of teachers with stamina, reasonable professional titles, and outstanding educational backgrounds. There are currently 106 faculty members, including more than 70 full-time teachers, and more than 45% of them have senior professional titles. There is 1 national candidate for the "New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project", 4 Shaanxi Renowned Teachers, 1 Young Scientific Star of Shaanxi Province, 1 "Renowned Teacher" at school level, 4 "Rising-star Teachers" at school level, 2 provincial teaching teams, 1 teaching team at school level and 1 scientific and technological innovation team at school level.
The College has wonderful conditions for running a school. For example, it has a provincial experimental teaching demonstration center (virtual simulation experimental teaching center), and 4 research institutes (centers), namely, Computer Application Technology Research Institute, Visual Measurement and Control Technology Research Institute, Mine Industry Internet Engineering Research Center, and Intelligent System and Control Research Institute. There are also 2 experimental teaching centers (including 8 professional laboratories), namely, practical teaching management center and computing center, and an innovation and entrepreneurship education center. The College has more than 1,000 sets of experimental and scientific research equipment such as small computer systems, cloud computing and big data systems, and deep learning servers, which can undertake a lot of teaching and scientific research work.
The College has formed distinctive characteristics in discipline construction and scientific research. Many important achievements have been made in the research fields of computer application, scientific computing and software engineering, embedded system, system integration and database technology, artificial intelligence and control technology, graphics and image processing technology, etc. In the past three years, the College has undertaken more than 100 national, provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects and enterprise-entrusted projects, such as key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has also won many provincial and ministerial-level teaching achievement awards and scientific and technological achievement awards.
The College is a comprehensive reform pilot for the "Three-alls" education policy of the Ministry of Education, which is to cultivate students by all members, through all means, and in all processes. At a new historical starting point, the College will fully implement the spirit of the National College Ideological and Political Work Conference and the National Education Conference to pace up the construction of "Double First-class" university, promote the mode of intensive development, adhere to the school-running philosophy of taking teaching as the center and paying equal attention to scientific research and social service, and fully improve the education quality to cultivate applied talents with excellent aptitudes and abilities.
