Xi'an University of Science and Technology planned to set up the major of communication engineering in 1984 and established the Communication Engineering Department in December 1994. On such a basis, the College of Communication and Information Engineering was established in 2002.
There are currently 124 faculty members in the College, including 53 teachers with senior professional titles, 55 postgraduate supervisors, and 51 teachers with doctoral degrees, accounting for 49%.There are 2269 registered undergraduates and 330 registered postgraduates in the College.The College has 1 doctoral program in second-level discipline: mining information engineering, and 2 master programs in first-level disciplines: information and communication engineering and electronic science and technology. It has 1 professional degree in electronic information; 5 undergraduate majors: communication engineering, electronic information engineering, electronic science and technology, intelligent science and technology, and Internet of Things engineering.
The College always adheres to the "people-oriented" principle and takes personnel training as its fundamental task.The major of communication engineering is included in the characteristic professional construction program in Shaanxi Province, which passed the engineering education professional certification of the Ministry of Education in 2018. The major of electronic information engineering is one of the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors and Shaanxi first-class undergraduate majors. The College has 3 teaching teams including the Shaanxi Communication Engineering Series Courses, 5 Shaanxi Excellent Resource Sharing Courses, 1 Shaanxi Communication Engineering Experimental Demonstration Center, and 1 Shaanxi Off-campus Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practical Training Base. The College has collaborated with ZTE Corporation to build the "ICT Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base of the Ministry of Education" and cooperated with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. to set up the "Huawei ICT College", thereby providing strong support for students' hands-on practice and the development of scientific and technological innovation ability.
Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the College has published more than 500 academic papers, including more than 300 SCI and EI index entries, as well as more than 30 monographs and textbooks. It has also been granted with more than 10 National Natural Science Foundations, approved with nearly 70 national, provincial and municipal projects and more than 150 patents.
