College of Electrical and Control Engineering originated from the major of mining mechanical and electrical of the Mining Department of Xi'an Jiaotong University. In 1958, it was separated from Xi'an Jiaotong University with the Mining Department and Geology Department to establish Xi'an Mining Institute.In 1959, the Mechanical and Electrical Department was established separately, which was one of the earliest three departments in Xi'an Mining Institute.In 1985, the Mechanical and Electrical Department was split into the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering.In 1994, the Department of Electrical Engineering changed its name to the Department of Automation.In 2002, the College of Electrical and Control Engineering was established on the basis of the Department of Automation.
The College has four departments and two centers, namely, Automation Department, Electrical Engineering Department, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrument Department, Electronic Science Department, Electrical and Electronic Center and Experimental Teaching Center.At present, the College has been approved to grant 1 doctoral degree in the second-level discipline of mine electromechanical engineering, 2 master's degrees in the first-level disciplines of control science and engineering and electrical engineering, 10 master's degrees in the second-level disciplines of power electronics and power transmission, control theory and control engineering, and 2 engineering master's degrees in fields such as control engineering and electrical engineering.The College has a robust faculty with a reasonable professional title structure and educational background. There are 12 professors, 22 associate professors, 12 senior engineers, and 51 teachers with doctoral degrees.
The College is teaching-centered and takes the cultivation of innovative talents as its fundamental task.In recent years, the College has won 1 provincial teaching achievement award, 3 teaching achievement awards of the Coal Society, 3 school-level special teaching achievement awards, 8 first-class teaching achievement awards, and 10 second-class teaching achievement awards.At present, the College has 1 provincial-level first-class major, 3 provincial-level teaching teams, and 5 provincial-level excellent resource sharing courses. It is a pilot college for innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in higher education in Shaanxi Province.The two majors of automation and electrical engineering and automation have passed the engineering education professional certification of the Ministry of Education, and the major of measurement and control technology and instrument is expecting engineering certification experts for visit and inspection.
The College adheres to the concept of teaching through scientific research to promote them both. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 50 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects and more than 400 horizontal projects. It has obtained more than 200 national patents (including 60 invention patents), published 11 monographs and textbooks written and edited by our teachers, and more than 500 papers in academic journals and conferences at home and abroad, of which more than 300 were included by SCI, EI and ISTP.
The College values practical training and has established long and good cooperative relations with large domestic enterprises.In recent years, the College has won more than 100 national, provincial and ministerial awards in national competitions such as the National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students and the Electronic Design Competition.There are on-campus and off-campus practical training bases for each major, where students can well cultivate their cognitive and practical abilities.
Graduates of the College have solid academic underpinnings, strong hands-on ability, and excellent comprehensive quality.In recent years, the initial employment rate is over 98%.Graduates are distributed in information technology, power system, industrial and mining enterprises, national defense science and technology, and other fields, and most of them have become the mainstay of their industries or enterprises.With excellent aptitudes and abilities, a considerable number of our graduates have entered famous universities and research institutes such as Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Nanjing University, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences for further study.
