At 19:00 pm on April 23, the final of the 7th Poetry Conference of Xi'an University of Science and Technology was held in the lecture hall of Lishan Campus Library. Fan Jianwu, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the university, attended and presented awards to the winners. As special guests, Li Ming, lecturer of Chinese Department of Xi'an Jiaotong University, doctor in literature of Nankai University, and one of the top four contestants of Hebei Satellite TV's fourth season of "Good Chinese Poetry" finals and Li Yu, an alumnus who won the champion of Shaanxi division and the second place in western division of Good Chinese Poetry, made the comments. Relevant leaders of the Youth League Committee, Library, School of Humanities and Foreign Languages, and more than 300 teachers and students who loved poetry watched the competition on the spot.
"A thousand cups of wine and ten thousand poems." China has been a country of poetry since ancient times. The final of this poetry conference consists of four parts: required questions, group-based quick response questions, level challenge and crown competition, which are richer and more exciting than before. The 15 contestants are in high spirits, and the forms of required questions are filling verse, nine squares and twelve squares; group-based quick response questions are descriptive questions; the contestants should rush to answer, which is tense and fierce; the level challenge is divided into three degrees of difficulty, and opportunities and challenges test the psychology of the contestants; in the crown competition, two Feihualing competitions (word games) were wonderful, and four contestants described "traditional festivals" and "patriotism" in turn in the competition. After fierce competition, Duan Yangyang from College of Communication and Information Engineering won the first prize, Dong Haonan, Zhang Zhezhe and Yang Hongjing won the second prize, and Jiang Guoxun, Yang Rui, Liu Yongkang, Cheng Simin and Liang Yuxuan won the third prize.
During the intermission, Xiaoxiang Classical Literature Society presented the audience with a classic modern song and dance performance adapted from the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan's work— Shan Gui. The intoxicating music and dance added classical and elegant poetic beauty to the poetry conference. Li Yu's Feihualing live performance on the Chinese character "Jiu (wine)" with the first prize winner Duan Yangyang brought the audience a wonderful battle of the strong and made the competition even more exciting.
Li Ming pointed out in his comments that poetry makes our life better, which is not only reflected in life, but also gives higher significance to our spirit. "Poetry education is a spiritual construction of people. Nowadays, teenagers shall be educated in spirit and physique. Poetry can improve students' aesthetic appreciation, but we also need to pay attention to students' physical education and develop them more comprehensively." He said that although Xi 'an University of Science and Technology is good at science and engineering, it has also shown deep cultivation in humanities. Today, the performance of the contestants is remarkable, showing that the university attaches great importance to students' humanistic education and has achieved fruitful results. Li Yu expressed his sincere wishes to his alma mater with three verses: "The strong pass of the enemy is like a wall of iron", "the high peaks on Liupan Mountain are tall and straight, and the red flags are blown by the strong west wind", and "crossing these blue hills adds nothing to one's years, the landscape here is beyond compare".
The theme of this poetry conference is "telling classic poems and paying tribute to the essence of China". Sponsored by the Youth League Committee, Library and School of Humanities and Foreign Languages of Xi'an University of Science and Technology, and undertaken by the Youth League Committee of School of Humanities and Foreign Languages, Yiban Development Center, Student Management Committee of the Library, Xiaoxiang Classical Literature Society, Guofeng Painting and Calligraphy Association, etc., the competition lasted a month, and more than 1,380 contestants took part in the preliminary written test.
