In sunny and warm April, two weeks after work resumption, the gate of Lishan Campus in Lintong Campus of Xi'an University of Science and Technology is under intense arrangement. Red carpet, inspection gate, isolation belt, movable tent and welcome banner have been "put in place". The news of the school resumption spread like a swallow in spring, singing joyfully through the whole campus.
Xing Zhongxue, a senior majoring in e-commerce in the School of Management who got off the bus from the school pick-up bus, stood in front of the school with a little fatigue. In front of her, some students were going through a series of procedures such as entrance examination and information registration. Now, she needed tocompletethe initial inspection procedures such as disinfection and temperature measurement, keep a certaindistance fromothers, and enter the campus through the designated channel. The fully "armed" staff welcomed her while collecting and recording the information. Xing Zhongxue said that her anxiety eased as the school staff made her feel at home.
While Xing Zhongxue was still waiting at the entrance of the school, Yao Liang of the apartment management center had already known all the information about the student's arrival through WeChat working group. He busied himself with arranging student accommodation for the apartment's administrator, though they had rehearsed this process several times. The student would be allowed to check in after temperature taking, information registration, luggage disinfection and confirmation. Students who miss the meal would receive a free simple package: instant noodles, ham sausage or bread. In the thoroughly sanitized dormitory, Yao Liang and his colleagues have already prepared a "two-piece set" of epidemic prevention for the students: a warm reminder and a health pack. As for the emergency contact after returning to school as well as the life guide are all contained in this brief "reminder", e.g. the QR code of the epidemic prevention information group of the school hospital, the emergency contact person and phone number, and the basic epidemic prevention instructions. These prevention measures against COVID-19 students have not prevented people caring and helping each other. In the health pack for each student prepared by the school, there are ten masks, a mercury thermometer, a disinfectant wipe, a bottle of disinfectant and an epidemic prevention publicity manual, Yao Liang said. It is through such care and love that the school works together with students to fight the "epidemic" and resume school.
Despite this meticulous care, what is even more touching is the dormitory managers who are on duty in ordinary days. Since the New Year's Eve, more than 70 managers of 21 apartment buildings in the two campuses of Lintong campus have been on duty. After the official resumption of work, none of the 182 housing managers asked to take a day off. They had to face the information check of as few as 600 people and as many as 4,000 people, confirming and classifying all over 20,000 students according to the changes in the regional epidemic situation. They had to rotate to complete the routine inspections and disinfection for 126 floors. Zhang Xiaomei, who has only been in the job for more than a year, is about 4 kilometers away from her school. At the height of the epidemic, there were no many vehicles available and she could only walk to and from work every day for 2 hours at a time. She said that she was also a little scared, but she always told herself, "If quit I, and others also quit, then no one will do it." Zhou Cuiping, who is also a dormitory manager, has gray sideburns, slight sweat on her forehead and bloodshot eyes. She was responsible for distributing KN95 masks, protective clothing, gloves, shoe covers, etc. Zhou Cuiping has been wearing this equipment for more than 24 hours since the first student arrived at school at 1 a.m. Throughout the night, she did not dare to take off. She was too tired and only took a nap. She could not really fall asleep, for she knew that there were still students coming back. At 4 a.m., the second batch of students arrived at the school. After being properly settled, Zhou Cuiping finally could have a good rest. When the morning light shines, dormitory managers started preparing for the work of a new day.
Around 6 o'clock, when Zhou Cuiping could have a rest for a while, the warehouse keepers in front of the warehouse of the catering management service center started their busy work.More than 20 kinds of dishes, about 1.5 tons, would go through strict acceptance, weighing, inventorying, warehousing and other procedures within one and a half hours to enter the vegetable room for more detailed unpacking inspection and cleaning. To reduce the potential risks brought by foreign personnel, the center required suppliers to use special buses and personnel for distribution, and strictly carried out prevention and control procedures such as disinfection, temperature taking and registration. At the same time, the center designates special personnel in the school to carry and wash vegetables.Later, these selected vegetables would be cooked according to the already planned menu. When teachers and students started enjoying their breakfast, they did not realize that relevant preparation had started nearly 5 hours ago. There are three appetizers, six main courses, one soup, one fruit and one snack per day. During the epidemic, it's not easy to ensure different main dishes with reasonable and healthy matching for each month. The short supply of personnel also put pressure on catering work. Thirty-one management personnel and all service personnel were added to the front line of disinfection and sanitation work while completing their own work. Zhu Yonglin, director of the Food and Beverage Management Service Center, said, "Everyone here did everything they can, like disinfection, washing bowls or getting food for students." Due to numerous work tasks, he cares too little for his family. He got married only last year and sometimes had to face his wife's complaints and asking, "Is it possible to change to another department?" Zhu Yonglin responded: "We shall do whatever the school asks us to do. It's better to get things done rather than complaining and being picky."
The epidemic has indeed become a "big test" for Zhu Yonglin and his colleagues. On March 17, he officially went to work. More than 80 catering employees passed the inspection and took up their posts. For three consecutive days, 23,000 square meters of catering area were completely disinfected. This was only the beginning. How to arrange and guide the daily average of 600 staff members during the early resumption of work, and even the dining of more than 20,000 teachers and students after the full resumption of classes, a series of problems have become a heavy burden for them. According to theGuidelines for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 in Student Canteens of Colleges and Universities(2nd Edition) issued by the China Education Logistics Association, and in combination with the characteristics of the school, they developed detailed plans for all links involving catering. Nucleic acid test, inventory, training in place, field, personnel, process management, dining area, method, route design...They prepared these "ahead of schedule" and accumulated experience in each "small test". More than 1,400 PVC desktop isolation boards were made and placed within one week. During the resumption of work, more than 150 meals were distributed at temporary dining points a day. In the early stage of the resumption of classes, the "mobile cabin restaurant" that meets the hygiene standards and epidemic prevention conditions was renovated. It can accommodate more than 100 people to eat at the same time and provide mobile meal taking service. The on-campus online take-out APP has been put into trial operation and is planned to open to teachers and students after the full resumption of classes. Each innovative idea demonstrates unswerving efforts and disciplined spirit of Zhu Yonglin and his colleagues in face of this "big test".Zhu Yonglin said with a smile that he hoped that the "online + offline" efforts would provide "takeaway" meals for about 5,000 to 10,000 teachers and students. Through this little smile, they seem to be seen every day, persistent and eager, silent but deeply affectionate.
After a good night sleep, Xing Zhongxue, who was full of spirit, stood on the balcony and chatted with Zhou Cuiping on duty at a distance. The optimistic and cheerful child said that the quilt smelled of sunshine and was especially fragrant, feeling that she could sleep in bed until graduation. In fact Zhou Cuiping and other colleagues hung out these quits a few days in advance, as they were afraid that the quilt would moisture after being put on for a long time. She also told Zhou Cuiping that the food was so delicious that she couldn't help eating more and felt that she was going to get fat. Then she bursted out laughing. With sunny weather and warm breeze, their laughter went through the buildings with the wind, wandering and rippling in Xi'an University of Science and Technology at the foot of Mount Li.
