On the afternoon of June 20, the Symposium of 2019 Graduates' Representatives of Xi'an University of Science and Technology was convened in the Conference Room II of Lishan School Yard, Lintong Campus. Zhou Xiaode, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Fan Jianwu presided at the meeting. Participants also included Vice President Wang Guirong and some representatives of teachers and graduates of 2019, as well as the heads of the Office of the Party (School) Committee, Publicity Department, Office of Student Affairs, Teaching Office, Youth League Committee, Office of Academic Affairs, Graduate School, Laboratory and Equipment Management Department, Office of Assets and Logistics Management, External Liaison and Cooperation Department, Security Office, Library and other departments and units.
At the symposium, the graduates shared their learning experiences and lessons learned from growth at the school, put forward their opinions and suggestions on the school's "Double First Class" construction, and sent sincere blessings to their alma mater. Professor Yu Xueyi and Professor Zhao Gaochang sent their best wishes and earnest expectations to the graduates on behalf of the faculty. Heads of some departments and units attending the symposium also said that they would continue to explore and improve ways and approaches in their future work to better serve the students, contributing to the growth of the talents.
Dr. Ren Lifeng, a graduate representative of the College of Safety Science and Engineering, reviewed his 10-year study and course of growth in the university, and express gratitude to his alma mater for inspiring him to overcome difficulties and make unremitting efforts to improve himself. With the expectation of his alma mater and the blessing of his teachers, Ren Lifeng said he would take on his share of responsibility, cultivate his moral character and make new breakthroughs in his academic work in the coming days. Zhang Jing, a master's graduate representative at the School of Marxist, said that the university enabled her to increase her knowledge base and forge her abilities. She would continue to intensify her efforts and march forward triumphantly, devoting herself to the school's development and social progress as a young striver.
The undergraduate representative at the College of Energy Science and Engineering Wu Liang thanked the school for offering him the opportunity to join the army and acquire military skills. Sticking to such excellent qualities as perseverance and the courage to forge ahead of the miners, he said he would devote his whole life to the mining industry of our country, overcoming any difficulty ahead. Finally, he saluted the teachers to express his highest respect and thanks. As a representative of the students going to Tibet and Xinjiang to support development there and a graduate of the School of Management, Yang Jianghao shared his intention of going far to the frontier, saying that he would uphold the motto of "the interests of the motherland are above all else" and take up the responsibility of a Communist Party member, taking root in, building and serving the frontier. Ruz Aili Ismaili, a representative of minority students at the School of Management, showed her gratitude to the school for its sound economic, academic and employment support policies, saying that he would continue to carry forward the spirit of the university and achieve greater goals in life, bearing in mind the lessons took from his alma mater. Du Wenxin, the graduate of College of Sciences who is sent to the Harbin Institute of Technology for a continuous academic project that involves postgraduate and doctoral study on recommendation, uttered that it was the school's excellent policy and careful training that enabled her to finish her study here and pursue education elsewhere. She also expressed her determination to enhance all sorts of ability to repay the university for its cultivation.
After listening carefully to the students' speeches, Secretary Zhou Xiaode congratulated them on successfully finishing their studies through unremitting efforts, and showed his appreciation of their contributions to the school and the opinions and suggestions they had put forward regarding the school's reform and development. He also reviewed the achievements made by the university in recent years, fully affirmed the self-confidence, calmness, and pursuit of dreams demonstrated by the graduates attending the conference, and encouraged all graduates to bear in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest expectations and deep concern for the youth in his speech to mark the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement. Mr. Zhou's concluding speech contained four main points. He insisted that all the graduates should aim high, standing at the height of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, to regard themselves as the real master of our country and take on the very responsibility of national rejuvenation; should be innovative, constantly make up for our country's shortcomings in science and technology, and make due contributions to the country's scientific and technological development with their energy and intelligence; should have strong determination and confidence to meet challenges and face difficulties, and constantly surpass ourselves to open the window for a victory; should have the ability to unceasingly seek knowledge in new positions, to start at the bottom and enlarge their talents in the practice, and become the pillars of each industry, making their own share of contributions to realize the Chinese Dream and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
