On the morning of April 25, the opening ceremony of the 17th Sports Festival and the 48th Track and Field Games of Xi'an University of Science and Technology was held on the track and field ground of Lishan School Yard, Lintong Campus. Zhou Xiaode, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, Li Ming, Fan Jianwu and Hu Wei, Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee of the university, Zhang Weihu, Wang Guirong, Lai Xingping, and Chen Chunlin, Vice Presidents of the university, all members of the organizing committee of the Sports Festival, principal officials of the Party and administration of various units and departments, principals in charge of teaching and student affairs of various colleges (departments), all referees, athletes, and staff attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chen Junjie, Director of the Sports Department.
At the opening ceremony, each college and unit showed the vigor of our teachers and students in the form of representative squads and group calisthenics, and also showed the spirit of our teachers and students to know, love and honor our school. After the guard of honor, athletes and referees entered the stadium, the games began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony accompanied by the national anthem. The sports meeting was officially opened by Zhou Xiaode. Wang Guirong delivered an opening speech.
On behalf of the university, Wang Guirong first extended congratulations on the successful convening of the Games, and extended cordial greetings and thanks to all the athletes, referees and staff members preparing for the Games. At the same time, he gave credit to the great importance attached to and achievements made in physical education by our university. He said that this sports activity was an important manifestation of the comprehensive implementation of quality education and the construction of socialist spiritual civilization in our university; it was a centralized acceptance of students psychological quality, physical quality and sports level; it was also a comprehensive review of the discipline and spirit of all teachers and students. At the same time, he hoped that, through this sports activity, the physical education work of our university could enter in a new stage and reach a new level; that all referees strictly abide by the rules and make just adjudication in line with the "objective, fair and accurate" attitude; that all staff stay faithful to their duties, offer warm service, and ensure security; that all the athletes and students abide by the discipline and competition rules of the Games, respect each other, learn from each other, exhilarate their spirits, continue to carry forward the Olympic spirit of "higher, faster and stronger", actively participate in the Games, compete fairly, give full play to their capabilities, display their own styles, enhance friendship, make achievements and refresh records.
Subsequently, representatives of athletes and referees took the oath, saying that they will carry forward the campus spirit of tenacious struggling, abide by the principle of fair and impartial competition, and embark on their competition and adjudication work with full energy. The first campus mini-marathon with the theme of "Run, XUST" initiated by the Sports Festival was held at Lishan School Yard, Lintong Campus this morning. The 5-kilometer race was the first long-distance race held within our university campus. It aimed at comprehensively promoting our university's fitness work, enhancing the physical quality and cohesion of teachers and students, vigorously building a "harmonious campus", and promoting the reform and development of our university's sports cause.
It is reported that this sports meeting is hosted by the sports committee of our university, and organized by the Sports Department and the Union of the university. A total of 3,481 athletes participated in the Games, including 3,078 in the student group and 409 in the faculty group. The competition was divided into two groups: the student group and the faculty group. A total of 18 colleges were enrolled in the student group, which was divided into 17 events and 2 group events in the men's and women's competitions. The faculty group was divided into men's and women's groups, with a total of 13 competitions. The two-day games will end on the afternoon of the 26th.
