Recently, Xi’an University of Science and Technology (XUST) hascarried out various forms of exchanges with Mansfield University, TroyUniversity, George Mason University, University of California at Fresno andother partner universities of the Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program.
On June 7, Dr. Brad Lint, Assistant Professor of Department of Englishat Mansfield University, Pennsylvania, visited XUST. The heads of InternationalExchange and Cooperation Office and Human Resources Office and the teacherrepresentatives of XUST who visited Mansfield University held talks with theguests at Lishan Campus in Lintong.
First of all, the head of International Exchange and CooperationOffice introduced the development of the Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program atXUST and the basic situation of the university in teaching and scientificresearch, especially the international exchange and cooperation mode betweenXUST and international famous universities in recent years, as well as theoperation of virtual teaching and research offices of bilingual teaching in theuniversity. The head of Human Resources Office introduced the specific practiceof encouraging teachers to internationalize and relevant policies aboutteachers visiting abroad and students studying abroad. The representatives ofteachers visiting Mansfield University exchanged and shared their experiences.
Dr. Brad Lint expressed thanks for our reception and introducedthe general situation of the visiting and communication programs at MansfieldUniversity. The two sides exchanged views on the establishment of teacherresearch bases between the two universities in the future and the exchange ofteachers and students.
Before themeeting, Dr. Brad Lint visited the Engineering Training Center and the SafetyInstitute Laboratory.
On June 10, Zhang Weihu, Vice President of XUST, attended theinaugural meeting of the Chinese Alumni Association at Troy University. ZhangWeihu and Jack Hawkins, President of Troy University, exchanged views on thecooperation between the two universities, and reached consensus on furtherdeepening the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities in teachertraining, student selection and other aspects. During the period, Zhang Weihualso visited Lu Xin who graduated from XUST and was exchanged to TroyUniversity and learned about the harvests of graduates in the program in detail.
On the morning of June 11, a delegation headed by Matthew Sacco,Director of the International Enrollment Office of George Mason Universityvisited XUST, accompanied by Krista Erik, director of project operations, andLisa O'Hara, director of academic programs. Vice President Zhang Weihu met theguests in the first conference room at Lintong campus. The heads of College ofManagement, College of Computer Science and Technology, College of Civil anarchitectural Engineering and International Exchange and Cooperation Officeattended the meeting.
Zhang Weihu extended a warm welcome to the guests and introducedthe development history and preponderant disciplines of XUST in detail, and thenbriefly summarized the development of the Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program atXUST.
Matthew Saccoexpressedthanks for the warm reception. He briefly introduced the overall situation ofGeorge Mason University and gave a detailed explanation on the overalldevelopment and language training of the Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program atGeorge Mason University. He also hoped that more and more students will chooseGeorge Mason University to continue their studies.
The leaders of participating colleges respectively introducedthe basic situation and professional advantages of each college, and introducedthe students participating in the Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program in detail.
During the exchange, the two sides communicated and reached animportant consensus on the advantages and problems of the Sino-American CHEPD1+2+1 Program. Both parties hoped to take this meeting as an opportunity tostrengthen professional cooperation in student programs, professional training,teacher visits and scientific research and continue to promote internationalexchanges between the two universities.
On the morning of June 11, Dr. Lin Jieyi, Assistant VicePresident of International Affairs of University of California at Fresno, andMs. Cheng Qianyi, Research Fellow of International Affairs Recruitment, visitedthe College of Mechanical Engineering in Yanta Campus of XUST. The leaders ofthe college and the guests exchanged views on teacher studies, student programsand so on. Subsequently, Lin Jieyi and her colleagues visited the laboratory ofthe college and conducted in-depth exchanges with students.
In the afternoon, the leaders of International Exchange andCooperation Office held talks with the guests. The two parties sorted out oneby one the discipline match, teacher study programs and student programs, anddetermined the intention of future cooperation.
The Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program is a new two-way exchangeand cooperation program for Sino-US higher education jointly managed by ChinaEducation Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), China Center forInternational Educational Exchange (CCIEE) and American Association of StateColleges and Universities (AASCU). CCIEE and AASCU choose qualifiedinstitutions of higher learning (public institutions) in China and the UnitedStates as members of the program to undertake specific teaching tasks.
The program was initiated by Suzhou University, Xi'an Universityof Science and Technology, Xi'an Petroleum University and Troy University of theUnited States in March 2001. By June 2018, 157 universities in China and theUnited States have joined in the program (122 Chinese universities and 35 USuniversities). As a founding university, XUST has sent 163 undergraduatestudents to US universities since 2002, of which, 126 students havesuccessfully graduated with graduation & degree certificates from bothChinese and American universities, and 11 of them have continued their studiesin Ivy universities such as Columbia University.
